To Many Me's

I sometimes feel as if that with different people we act differently. If you were with your family you are a different person that you would be with your friends. Why is this so? Why do have act differently around different people? I think that every person you know, each person knows a different version of you. A different you. I read in a book one of the character said "But you only know one me." This got me thinking, are we acting differently to please the other person we are friends with? Hiding our true selves just so we don't lose our friends and become an outcast? I can tell you for sure I am a different person with my friends in Singapore than I am with my friends in Canada. Why can't we be the same person with everyone we meet?
