October is Polio Awareness Month and in the coming weeks the Polio Australia Team will be rolling out the "We're Still Here!" Campaign which will culminate on the 31st of October at Parliament House in Canberra. This Campaign is a bid to increase awareness of the Late Effects of Polio (LEOP) and Post-Polio Syndrome (PPS) and the urgent need for specialised services to diagnose, treat and assist in the management of the complex and often debilitating symptoms experienced by Australia’s polio survivors.
The "We're Still Here!" Campaign seeks to generate 30,000 petition signups requesting funding from the Federal Government. This funding is urgently required to ensure that polio survivors are provided with the specialised health services they need to manage their condition, and maintain independence and quality of life. Polio Australia also requires funding to continue providing support, information and education to polio survivors, health professionals and the community.
Members and supporters will be making the trip to Canberra to hand the petition personally to their local Members.
We want to remind everyone that "We're Still Here!" and we critically need these services. Join our movement on both Facebook and Twitter!
